A very happy birthday to Alicia for X XXXXXXXl!

There were no spectators, heck we didn’t even have a scorer. But these 5 brave men took one last stand on Court 5 (the one right down the very end) to continue the legacy for one more game.
In the end we failed, 39-27 I think it was, but I think we all gave it our best. We were out numbered from the start, with TGA having something like 8-9 players as well as a cheer squad. They weren’t that skillful of a team but their youth, height and speed wore us down in the end. We put the first points on the boards and I think it was 5-0 before they started to score. By half time, we were down by 1 at 14-13 but when second half came I think we were just all too buggered. Their offence wasn’t crash hot but they kept penetrating the key and our offence just didn’t follow through/finish either. We missed quite a few freethrows and had a few turnovers as well. We couldn’t execute our normal Phil-cheery-picks effectively cos they just got back there too damn quick most of the time. Still, it was something like 32-27 with about 3 mins to go and we kept fouling them to send them to the line (9 fouls on us) but despite their constant misses, we couldn’t convert.
Highlights for the game were:
- The fact that we all qualified to play in the finals
- Cheeks blocking one of the tall guys who scored on him earlier (#50)
- Harng taking a baseline drive and hitting the backboard
- Harng playing at all
- Harng then deciding to have a run up and down the court AFTER the game finished (’Alan Syndrome’??)
- Phil not fouling out
- Any of us not fouling out (we did have 5 on court as the other team so kindly offered to provide a scorer)
- Me whacking Harng with my bony elbow as I came down from a rebound
- The other big basketballs sitting on the side of the court
And so, the era ends…
So, another weekend, another week. Went out with Gin in the fabulous 30 degree Melbourne weather yesterday to go watch the cycling road race. Got there just in time as they were up to the fourth last lap. Managed to find a nice spot near the finish line and ended up seeing the Aussie (forgot his name already) take over and win in the last lap (there was a big screen TV near the finish line so that was cool).
HP/Yang, where did you guys end up camping out?
So how’s day 1 at work Hay? Sick of it yet?
Or does it actually seem interesting?
Anh, taking any of the coffee or snacks home yet?
BTW Ash, Gin’s asked her mum and she’ll get the number for the alarm guy tomorrow.
Originally received from HP as an email, but I thought this was worth posting… and I can’t believe it’s the real deal!
It’s a double bath. It’s got me sold.
OK, just to get revenge at Anh and Hay who went skiing in perfect conditions and who had European cuisine, we had Vietnamese cuisine last night! Now, where would you rather be? Carnegie or France/Italy?
Took a few photos which I’ll post tomorrow.
Some pics of Day1 … pics of Day2-4 to follow soon.
As you can see, the weather was perfect - not cold or windy at all. Although by Day4, it was snowing and foggy.
It’s a really quiet family ski resort. There weren’t many bars, and was just about empty by about 7pm. Which isn’t bad coz it meant that we could sleep earlier and hit the slopes earlier. The mountain is big enough that most of the time you get the whole ski run to yourself! You probably see one or two people every 2nd or 3rd run. It’s so big, one the the run is 17km long! And you get to ski from La Thuile (Italy) to La Rosiere (France). It’s really beautiful skiing with the French Alps in the background. You really have to be there!
The runs are quite easy as well… was doing black runs with 73 degree slopes and some small jumps! I have a video, but not sure if I can upload it? Over there, the black runs are the no runs… bascially the experts make their own tracks. I said I was ‘intermediate’ and they basically locked my ski boots into the skis! I stacked it heaps but they never came off!
At the end of the perfect ski day, there are quality authentic Italian restaurants right on the mountain. Mmm… getting hungry just thinking about it again! I can describe it, but it won’t do it justice, and it’d be a very long email.
Jealous? …. no need, coz I’ll definitily be organising a ski trip next year, so come on over!!
And for the fourth sports related post in as many days, I went to the Comm Games badminton last night. Turned out to be a decent competition, with Singapore, Malaysia, England and NZ all playing some fairly entertaining badminton.
Then there was this charming photo that I took.

And the big question, is this Singaporean player a guy or a girl?
What do these four things have in common?

My days of sleeping in to 1.00pm, watching British daytime soaps and Star Trek are over. I start work on Monday with a company called Sames PLC. I will be based on site and working on a 6M pound extention to a school. Some how I don’t think I will be able to pick what coffee beans I get to drink but the job should be pretty cruisey.
Carbon bike frame here I come?? Not quite yet.
