Broadband at last!

Posted by Geek on 27th June 2006 in Melbourne

Finally, I’ve got ADSL broadband. It was actually quite quick given that I applied Friday. I checked online today and it said it was all ready and hence I phoned up for the password (I’m sure it would’ve been mailed to me otherwise).

Let the photos begin… :)

For the first time in 12 years…

Posted by Geek on 25th June 2006 in Melbourne

I got a speeding ticket.

Alleged Speed was 109km/h, Detected Speed was 111km/h. I’m sure I just triggered it off.

I got nabbed on the West Gate Freeway by a fixed camera and I know I really should’ve known better (but hey, it’s not every day I travel to Point Cook!). On the positive side at least I’ve since discovered this great site: Roadwatch

Oh well, there’s $131 to the Vic State Government.

Our reps in Germany

Posted by Geek on 25th June 2006 in Travel

Just received this via sms from J. Lo. Wonder if we can find a plug in that accepts posts via sms.

“Just got tickets 2 the Aus v Ita game at cost price! Hahaha. Sucked in mate, enjoy the game in Melb as i soak in the sunshine in germany.Thinking of u guys ;)”

Be sure to let us know what the atmosphere was like. Post pics and vids!

Update from admin: I’ve finally managed to download the video by summoning the collective geek knowledge, and particularly with a good suggestion from Tuong. Will make it available here soon, maybe after I cut out the extraneous bits.

AUS 2 - CRO 2

Australia is through to the round of 16! I don’t think I’ ve ever been this excited over a draw!

Woke up early this morning but accidentally snoozed through the first few minutes so I missed the first Croatian goal that was scored before they even finished singing the national anthems. Tense game and there was a lot at stake for both teams so as you’d expect the ref blew his whistle quite a few times. One of the highlights would have been Josep Simunic getting three yellow cards before the ref remembered to send him off. What a controversy that would have been if Croatia had beaten Australia.

I received an SMS from Phil right after game. Letter by letter transcript:
Hey Hp! Check out www.Foxsport.Com.Au on Aust vs Croatia. James n i r there with interview after the game! Put it on qweop website! Having a ball at Stuttgard

That has to be the most coherent message I’ve ever received from Phil. I’ve had a look at foxsports.com.au and I can’t find anything - possibly not up so quickly. If anyone locates it, post it up here.

Interesting links for the day

Posted by HPG on 21st June 2006 in Stuff on the Web

Just some interesting reading for the day.

One is a slightly novelty news item:
A LAKE FULL OF VODKA

The other is more interesting:
11 cousins have stomachs removed to avoid cancer risk

Before reading this, I had assumed the stomach had more of a role in absorbing nutrients during the digestive process. Turns out the stomach more or less just breaks down the food and the nutrients are absorbed mainly in the small intestine.
