sideways – 874km
HY – 764km
Keith – 756m
Geek – 233km
HP – 195km
DJ – 107km
Well done to Andrew, our newest participant of YJOM, who took out this month’s YJOM with a whooping 874km. HY and I put in a hard chase but we were both just too tired. HY in particular had a massive comeback, putting in almost 300km in a week to over-take me. Good to see DJ on the scoreboard too. Geek put in some reasonable mileage given that London’s been virtually snow-covered for most of the month. HP put in some decent mileage in the last part of the month, but was busy doing dodgy things in hotel rooms in Bangkok prior to that.

The last YPR ride felt like ages ago, so it was good to get at least 3 TYP members out for a ride. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw HP riding with the MRR guys, where I was waiting at the top of Warrigal Rd. He actually woke up for a 6am rendezvous? Amazing! We picked up HY near Mitcham Rd. I figured I would only have the legs to challenge for one KOM, so I decided to go for the Doncaster Rd hill. I had a good little sprint with the new guy on the Jamis Xenith but he beat me by a few metres to take out the win. Anyway, it was pretty much just pootle-mode from there, to make sure I’d have the legs to get home. Well done to HP, for doing his first ever MRR, and for doing some decent road mileage, despite only just returning from overseas (even though he was a soft c0ck, and bypassed “Col du Burgundy”). Great ride. Legs were nicely toasted afterwards.

My New Year’s resolution for 2010 is to spend more time on the BMC. This may have been partly because I was the fattest one on the Croatian trip. Mind you, I was competing against the giraffes, Norm and Virginia, and Anh and Hay.
Another reason is that the distance I covered in the year 2009 was, pathetically, probably equivalent to what TYP members covered in a month.
The first ride was fourteen days into the new year. I rode three days in a row and then had another ride four days later covering a distance of about 104km. This is not a huge number but is a start! It’s feeling good!
Anyone for a ride?
Since Hay’s not here, I borrrowed his Bianchi for a quick spin. I think I managed to fit it pretty much to the measurements on my Giant, with the exception that the drop may have been about 1cm more.

My thoughts? Well carbon is definitely a lot ‘cushier’ for the ride, but….
Maybe I’m not used to riding compact 50/34…
Maybe it was the shallower wheels…
Maybe it needs a bit of a service…
OR… maybe it’s not about the bike after all and I’m just not as fit as I thought I was.
My ride time on the Genesis on Tuesday was faster than what I did this afternoon.
Well, I’m not going to write off this super light sexy beast yet, so will give it a few more spins and see if I can break a 35km/h average.
