The science behind riding a bike…

Potential N=N+1 folding bike

I’m looking at buying a bike “for Gin”. :) I was looking at some folders originally as I could then ride it as well, so was after some tips/recommendations.

  • What brand?
  • Warranty/durability?
  • 16″/20″ or 24″/26″?
  • Does weight matter?
  • Handling? I read supposedly 24″ and 26″ handle more like real bikes, but don’t fold as much?
  • Any other good/bad things to look out for in folders?

And then whilst I was looking, I got a little carried away…

Seriously, I might consider a “doped” bike given that it may mean Gin will ride it more and plus I can use it more as a mode of transport as opposed to for health (and plus it does look pretty funky). The only bad thing about the Gocycle is that it’s not fully foldable so I can’t take it into restaurants, on the tube/buses, etc. Doesn’t also look very easy to lock up too due to it’s design (actually it’s probably not lockable at all really given most parts are removable) .

So any tips/recommendations on electronic bikes as well? One thing I read is that I think it has to be under 200W to be classified as a bicycle still under Australian law.
