I have an Android device, but no wifi, so I don’t know what new apps are out there. I’ll happily use your advice when I do though.

Convertpad – Converts one thing to another thing.
Weather Australia – When you cannot be bothered browsing to BOM site.

Adding

Vignette – alternative camera app, with extra filters and features.

Thinking Space – mind mapping software, useful for note taking. Saves in .mm file format which is compatible with FreeMind on the desktop.

ZXing Barcode Scanner – but I guess it’s more useful within another app more than just an app by itself.

Math Maniac. One of those games where everyone tries to boast about their high scores.

Google Sky Map – Point your phone at the night sky, and it will identify the constellations for you.

I’m back playing time-wasting text-based MMORPGs again. Anyway, these are the 2 I’m currently playing (just in case someone wants to be my ally).

I’m loving X Construct atm… still stuck on L3 (or something low like that) though.

Does anyone know of any good text based adventure games? I loved games like HHGTTG back in the days… where you had to type ‘north’ or ‘south’ instead of just point and click to where you want to go/look. Monkey Island and Space Quest were also good classics.

I spent ages on X Construct level 3. My solution is quite bouncy and just scrapes through….

Hmm. I might have a go at this X Construct game. It’s only playing games where I can compare my high scores with someone.

I’ve finished all 12 X construct levels. Some just making it across.

Spotcycle – FINALLY an Android app which shows the status of Melbourne Bike Share stations

Not apps. These are live wallpapers, but they’re cool.

Blue Skies – flying through the clouds.
Galactic Core – there’s lots of galaxy/space wallpapers, but this one looks the best.

Don’t you find that the Live Wallpapers suck your batteries too fast?

Elixir – It does a bit of everything – task manager, sensor reader, desktop widget with custom buttons (which are smaller than standard)

That Elixir program is great. They’ve seriously thought of everything. I’ve spent the whole lunchtime tweaking my device. Now I’ve pretty much fit all the status meters and 99% of the icons I use, on the one single page.

I agree… took a bit of fiddling to understand how to build a toolbar, but now I’ve basically got everything all nicely packaged together.

Maybe an idea for another game would be “Bike Dismount”…

We need to figure out a way to motion capture HPG for it…..

Battle Fury.

It’s similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. For those unfamiliar with Final Fantasy, it’s basically a squad-based RPG. You collect and level-up your characters. Battles are fought on a “chess-board” grid, similar to “tower-defence” style games. I’m loving it so far, ‘cos I’m a bit of an RPG-junkie and a fan of FF-style games.

What’s the difference between Battle Fury and Battle Fury Deluxe??

Dunno. The Deluxe version seems to make my phone crash. As far as I can tell they seem pretty much the same.

Yep, been playing a bit of Battle Fury. Not bad but also crashes a bit on my phone which is annoying. Seems a bit easy in the first 20 or so levels though.

Also started playing Clever Contraptions – basically a The Incredible Machine / Rube Goldberg type game. Simple fun

Started playing Math Maniac. My best score is still embarrassingly low. Only 31500 (hard difficulty). Yes, I admit it. I suck at arithmetic

Have also been playing “cut the rope”. Similar addictiveness as angry birds.

Plants vs Monsters – a cross between Bejeweled and Plants vs Zombies
Tiny Robots – another Space Invaders remake

IceTV – TV guide. Seems to get a lot of poor ratings on Android Market, possibly undeserved. Mainly because, people don’t like having to “sign-up” for an account. Seems OK so far though. You can customise the guide to look for keywords or favourite shows. I think the premium account can interact directly with your PVR.

Woolworths app. Seems quite useful for me, as it’s my local store. Weekly specials, shopping list, etc.

Pocket Racing Lite. I don’t like racing games, but this one’s actually quite cool. It’s similar to Micro-Machines back in the old days…

Forbidden Brakes.

Another “top-down” racer. Similar to Pocket Racing, but it has 4-car racing with 3 other AI cars.

UniWar – HY’s recommendation. Strategy/war game.
Great Little War Game – similar to UniWar, but cool graphics and cute war units.

I just played Guns N Glory WW2 and thats pretty cute. RTS like C&C style
