I’m back, Baby.

Packed our Adelaide place from the weekend before and all through the past week. Took ages to do.

Ash and I drove off from Adelaide Saturday afternoon and stopped overnight at Coonawarra, South Australian wine country. Finished the rest of our leg Sunday afternoon to watch the Australian Open Final.

I’ve got time off this week to settle back in and unpack things. Gotta stay at parents’ place while waiting for Carnegie house to be vacated.

Adelaide was a good place to work and we bought a great place there. However, socially it was a little sleepy.

What’s everyone up to for Chrissie?

Gin and I will be going over to Pete and Elaine’s place for dinner on Christmas day itself. We have a Secret Santa (that’s what they call them over here) with a limit up to £15. Zada and Hamish will also be there. I’ll try and take some pics and post them later. Other than that I have the next 5 days off! Yippee. Sleep-ins!

As of 3 February 2008, TYP will close its Adelaide branch due to lack of members.

Currently, TYP Adelaide only has one member. The sole member is thought to be quitting in order to join the busier Melbourne branch which has a grand total of four members.

The Adelaide branch member, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stated, “Uh, I just get a bit bored of riding around by meself (sic). There’s no motivation there, you know, dude? I try to, like, spur myself on but there’s nothing quite like riding with others. I hope I don’t, like, get hated for closing down the Adelaide branch and I hope the Melburnians don’t beat me up for it.”

When asked about finding work in Melbourne, “Yeah, man. I’ll take what I can get. I got two good hands and am learning to have a good work ethic so I should be right, mate. Don’t like to wake up before midday, though.”

The member stated that he had to finish the interview at that point mentioning something about “needing a piss”.

It has been a long and lustrous history for TYP Adelaide, lasting for eighteen months and will be sad when it closes in three months’ time. However, looking optimistically, TYP Melbourne will further strengthen its membership by 25%.

Prior to the Grand Final on Saturday, the city of Adelaide was buzzing with excitement as Port Adelaide was in the Grand Final. There was much talk about equalling Adelaide Crows’ number of premierships. They made front page news for a week leading up to the Grand Final and much of the news about how supporters were heading to Victoria by train and car as flights were pretty full.

On Grand Final day, the streets of the suburb of Port Adelaide were empty. Everyone was at home or in the pub watching the game. We all know that it was a thrashing and no one was happier than Yours Truly.

What was even funnier was that the Grand Final was the first news article on TV for 15 minutes from Saturday to Monday. They showed how disappointed supporters were but the best part was showing grown men cry!!! Many supporters went to Alberton Oval, home of Port Adelaide, to watch the match and were bawling when the final siren came. Call me unsympathetic (because I am) but it was hilarious to watch! As you can tell, I haven’t succumbed to the pressures of supporting the teams of my adopted home; I’m Malaysian (I mean, Victorian) through and through!

The Sunday newspaper also spent the first 8 pages reviewing the Grand Final and had fans’ opinions about the Grand Final. It was really a waste of space as all 8 pages pretty much had the same point: Port Adelaide was terrible on the day. Here’s an article from today’s newspaper!

We’ll see whether I’ll shed a tear when Essendon plays in their next Grand Final and loses: I’ll only need to wait another 16 years…

I’ve just commenced working at a new hospital today. I’ve spent the last 6 months at Royal Adelaide Hospital. Now I’m working at Flinders Medical Centre.

Just finding my feet today and getting lost around the hospital.

Came to work today and the first case was a shocker.

18 year old passenger in a car that crashed into a tree. The passenger was drunk. Not sure about the driver - maybe I’m just assuming that he was drunk.

Regardless, he had, what we call, a ‘degloving’ injury to his right foot. It’s exactly what you imagine it to be. The skin from the ankle down had been stripped off like a sock. Remember Terminator 2 where Arnie took off the skin from his forearm? Similar to that. The skin which was stripped off was the whole sole and still had his big and little toes attached. It was found in his shoe which was in the car.

Took some photos of his foot with the skin beside it. Decided against posting it!!!

We performed a below knee amputation on him this morning. A tragedy in an 18 year old!

Moral: we have to be very careful before being a passenger in a car, especially after a night out!

I’m back next weekend!

My wife has an exam to do at home and so she wants me out of the house! Want to catch up Saturday morning/afternoon? Are you going riding?

Haven’t written for awhile as I’ve had a few problems with the computers at work allowing me to post anything. (I wrote my last post about my carpet from Victoria).

2 weeks ago, we finally had our floating floorboards installed and our new dining table delivered. We’re very happy with the result. Before they laid the floorboards, they pulled up the tiles leaving a bare concrete floor on which I lived for 3 weeks! It was a pain.

By the way, clicked on the link for Malaysian weather outlook. “Afternoon thunderstorms” for the next 7 days with identical “High” and “Low” temperatures. How predictable! - or typing errors, perhaps?

Anyone want to buy carpet?

We have finally had our floorboards installed downstairs 2 weeks ago after removing tiles and carpet. As such, we had a large piece of carpet that doesn’t fit anywhere in our small townhouse!

Any takers???
