Yet another perfect morning for an early ride to Mordi. Even though I totally missed my 6am alarm, HY and I managed to be out the door from my place at 7am. Now here was a new experience for me. We decided to take Hoddle St and Punt Road all the way down to St Kilda junction since were were running a bit late to meet Keith. This wasn’t much of a problem through Abbotsford and Richmond with the bus lane, but there is a slightly hairy stretch between Victoria St and Toorak Road.
Once we met up with Keith at North Roa, the three of us rolled down to Mordi at a moderate effort in a small group. We bumped into Danny down at Tour de Cafe having a morning ride with wifey Melissa. Danny, you old charmer, you. After a quick chat, they headed off south and we headed north. Keith split for work and HY and I headed home.

Great to see DJ delivering on his New Year’s resolution to put more kays on the bike. HP, HY and Chi-Lye rode to DJ’s place to pick him up. From there we rolled down to Mordialloc. We had a short break to look at bling bikes and then rode back. DJ had some pretty good baseline fitness, as he wasn’t too far behind us. (Chi-Lye was much further back). We still had some time up our sleeve, so we hit the velodrome. I was getting sick of trying for top speed PBs so I invented a new event: “The Lap”. I think one lap = 360m. Aim was to achieve the fastest lap time, with a rolling start. HY took out the win with a time of 28sec flat. I got 28.34, HP 30.3? and DJ not too shabby at 35sec?
I don’t have anything like the 1in20 climb near me, so maybe this could be my new fitness yardstick?

The last YPR ride felt like ages ago, so it was good to get at least 3 TYP members out for a ride. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw HP riding with the MRR guys, where I was waiting at the top of Warrigal Rd. He actually woke up for a 6am rendezvous? Amazing! We picked up HY near Mitcham Rd. I figured I would only have the legs to challenge for one KOM, so I decided to go for the Doncaster Rd hill. I had a good little sprint with the new guy on the Jamis Xenith but he beat me by a few metres to take out the win. Anyway, it was pretty much just pootle-mode from there, to make sure I’d have the legs to get home. Well done to HP, for doing his first ever MRR, and for doing some decent road mileage, despite only just returning from overseas (even though he was a soft c0ck, and bypassed “Col du Burgundy”). Great ride. Legs were nicely toasted afterwards.
