Norton Summit – conquered

Gave Norton Summit another crack yesterday.

Dragged my 85kg arse up the mountain. Took a long time (30 minutes) compared to others but I still did it!!!

Tried to pedal smoothly and definitely did better than Saturday.

Happy with my effort but still can improve!

Norton Summit

GlenelgHenley BeachI got back into riding last Tuesday when I took a 40km ride along the beach from Glenelg to Henley Beach.

My cousin has been pushing me to join him in a ride up to Norton Summit which he does weekly. This is in the Adelaide Hills and is pretty steep (probably not in your books). I thought that I’d train a little more before attempting this ride.

On Saturday though, I thought I’d try the ride alone as my cousin wasn’t free. It sucked! I sucked!

Norton SummitI needed to stop 4-5 times in this 6-7km ride. In the end, I wasn’t sure how far I had left to go and as far as I could see, it was still uphill. I was weak mentally – I turned around and went home … dejected.

I then drove up to the summit the next day and found that I had almost reached the top. Only about 1km to go!

I vow to conquer that ride soon. This ride is probably easy for you veterans but I need more training!!!

What pi$$ed me off even more were the bogan d!ckheads I encountered on the way to the foot of the hill. One guy drove in an old Commodore (that says it all) past yelling and waving his arms out the window.

Second incident was an @r$ehole who drove past me in an older Commodore and spat out the window. He then stopped at the next lights and I pulled up about 5 metres in front of him. I then heard him spit out the window again, which I assume was at me. Thinking about it, having a bike, wearing bike shoes and riding alone left me in no condition to retaliate. I really wanted to give him a piece of my mind – and my fist!

Still pi$$ed off about that incident.

Anything like that happen to you guys?
